REMARKS OF Deputy Mayor Mike Jones
St. Louis Modern Chinese School & Cultural Center
Sunday, September 9, 2012
Thank you for your kind introduction.
On behalf of the residents and elected officials of Richmond Heights, I am honored to welcome the St. Louis Modern Chinese School and Culture Center to our City.
We are a community that strongly supports the work of both public and private educational institutions. As such, we applaud your mission of preparing your students to meet the demands of higher education.
With more than 400 students enrolled, we congratulate the SLMCS for its ranking as one of the largest Chinese language schools in the United States.
We are also pleased to acknowledge your efforts to promote and perpetuate various aspects of the Chinese culture through music, dance, arts and crafts through the SLMCS Culture Center. Many in our community have already had the opportunity to enjoy performances and other SLMCS Culture Center offerings through programs at the Missouri Botanical Garden and other regional events.
We trust that you recognized some of the many benefits of our City’s location when you selected this building for your school and culture center:
- Our location along Interstates 64 and 170 make Richmond Heights easily and quickly accessible from just about anywhere in St. Louis County.
- We are well served by Metro-Link and County arterial roadways.
- We have a well-established retail and professional services base.
- And, finally, the City of Richmond Heights provides all of its constituents with high-quality police, fire, licensing, code compliance and other municipal services.
With the opening of your doors, you will officially become a part of our City’s history. Therefore I am honored to extend a personal invitation in hopes that you and your students will be able to take part in our City’s 100th anniversary in 2013.
We would be delighted and honored to have you share part of the Chinese culture with your new Richmond Heights neighbors during the year-long centennial celebration.
Again we congratulate the St. Louis Modern Chinese School and Culture Center upon opening of this honorable educational and cultural institution. We wish you all many years of continued success.
